Three Seasons (Sobek 90)

This is my first introduced Stella-type rebloomer. It typically blooms three times per season here (2=lowest, 4=highest). Like other Stella-types it likes frequent division for maximum bloom; about every four years is good. Its color is the cool yellow I like so much better than the lemon-to-gold shades that are so commonplace. I almost didn't introduce it because this nocturnal, opening around supper time, will sometimes have its edges start to go the following afternoon; I decided that this fault was not major and did not begin to cancel out the merits of this cultivar including color, grace, floriferousness; in short, this is an excellent landscaping daylily.

Purity * Stella De Oro

This was one of the plants that taught me a seldom discussed truth about Stella -- that Stella carries genes for fantastic bud count! I have had 61 buds on a single scape of this cultivar. A tall (40 inches or so) background landscaper in a clear bright sunshine yellow with no lemon or gold in it, this is a rare shade of yellow. I have only one other cultivar in the yard with this color: Stevens' tet Sunkissed Love. With all the yellow breeding going on you wonder why so much that is released is lemon. I once made a cross on Echo The Sun pollinating every flower on the clump for just two days. There were 32 flowers all-told; all 32 podded, resulting in a harvest of 1100 seeds!

Cool Spice: This is my second favorite of all. Its place in the garden might be similar to that of old Hyperion. Like that old chestnut it is very fragrant, it is an even greener cool- yellow, and where I think it beats all comers is its 36 hour bloom. It is a nocturnal that opens 8 p.m. on day one and is still out at 8 a.m. on day three. I have occasionally accidentally repollinated a cross done the day before. It is narrow-segmented but not a spider. Although individual scapes might have a bud-count only in the upper teens, the very high scape count and staggered bud opening give you a lot of flowers for a very long time. Very fertile and an important breeder and landscaper.

This flower is an extremely bright clear rose-red with a very green throat. It has been out a while now and I have seen nothing cleaner in this color range.
